I've started taking YAZ last year October and I must say its the best thing thats ever happened to me. I was constantly moody and after taking YAZ my mood swings are no longer a problem. I don't experience pre-menstrual pains anymore. My sex drive is better than before. The only side effect I had was painful breast for the couple of months but that usually happens when i'm about to have my period. Other than that I have had any bad experiences.

I was on Yaz for about a year and really didn't have any problems. I switched to BeYaz in November of 2010 and it has wrecked havoc on my body. I was so extremely fatigued I had to rest all the time, irritable, couldn't sleep well, hair loss and worst of all gained almost 25 lbs with no change in diet. I went to the Dr. and he ran over $1,000 of test and only thing he found was my cortisol was pretty high. Endocrinologist found nothing wrong. I decided on my own to stop taking the BeYaz and WOW! I feel much better. I felt like I was crazy, but only after 5 day's off of the pill, I almost feel normal again. I will have the Cortisol checked again in a month or two to see if it's normal again. Has anyone else experienced this? I just really wonder if there was that much difference in the two versions YAZ vs. BEYAZ. Thanks for any help on this.

I have taken YAZ.
YAZ is good medicine.
I often feel dizzy, so YAZ has some side effects.
But I like that medicine.

I've been taking Yaz for about a year now. I haven't had any side effects up until now. I skipped my last three periods, and I've just had a period that lasted a whole month.
Is that normal?

The author of yazforum.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Nothing is ever as simple as it first appears Thanks for the info.

I have been taking Yaz for a little over four months. I was the classic PMDD sufferer - emotional, depressive, severe cramps, breast tenderness and just general misery the week leading up to and of my period. Yaz has been great for me. It has reduced my cramps significantly, lessened the length of my periods from 5 to 3 days, and I have no more breast tenderness. The only side effect I have noticed is a decrease in sex drive and longer to orgasm. But I have decided that is a decent tradeoff for a huge pain reduction.

I have been taking Yaz for about 8 months. I don't really notice any difference compared to my last b.c. The only thing is that I do not start my cycle on the day I should take the 1st placebo. Also, I am still on my cycle when I start each new pack.Is this a bad thing???I started this pill in hopes of jump starting my sex drive, but it has not helped either.Maybe I should just switch back to ortho-novum.

I have been on YAZ for approximately 4 months now. The only problem that I have noticed personally, is the extreme fatigue. The first two months I did experience some nausea. But, my symptoms have improved. My skin looks great, I have a higher sex drive, and I also a sufferer of PMDD, have experienced better premenses cycles. I am not so moody and have less cramps. I found it so amazing to read other stories that were similar to mine. I also tried other bc methods, and so far this is the only one that seems to be working form me. It appears to be that the best candidates for this pill are women with severe pmdd.
Thanks to YAZ I feel rejuventated!

i started yaz a week and a half ago. i had high hopes since it does so much for people (acne, pmdd, etc). its the middle of my second week and im starting to experience side effects. (mood swings, being very snappy, nightmares, muscle aches when i wake up, and i feel like im gaining water weight) has anyone else experienced this switch on week two? does it clear up eventually?

I have to say I was horrified by what I read on the other page. I have been on Yaz for about 3 years now and have had absolutely no side effects from it. I take it as a period suppresant--meaning I take it continuously without getting a period. I have severe PMDD and endometriosis and have been dealing with (read:suffering from) both conditions for over a decade now. I have tried everything under the sun, traveled the country and seen the best doctors, and had about as many successes as I have failures in my quest for relief. Yaz has been the first oral BC that has come close to helping me. I am worried by the women that are reporting bizarre symptoms after only a few days. Afer that long there shouldn't even be enough in your system to cause any kind of changes. As many have mentioned on the No Side Effects page, not all BC is for all people. There are side effects associated with all BCPills b/c it's hormone regulation and that varies woman by woman. It also usually takes getting into a regimen with ANY new meds to see the full range of benefits. I fully understand people not wanting to suffer for 60 or 90 days for the rough patch to subside. I fully understand the misery that comes with nauseau or headaches, even fatigue. However, people need to remember that if they are NOT suffering from PMDD and do NOT have depression or anxiety disorders then there is a wide variety of BC available that is probably better suited for you. There are not dangerous levels of anything is Yaz and ALL BC is safe, but not ALL of it will "agree" with everyone's system. Finding the cure or treatment of any medical condition can be, and usually is, a very tiring and stressful adventure. If you are in need of BC for PMDD then you have to be willing to make the committment to finding a regimen that works for you. Even if you are not suffering from PMDD and only want BC for actual birth control you still need to be open to the process of trying different meds and talking to your doctor about it. I think that seems to be the most common problem with a lot of women...they don't talk with their doctors about their results or feelings. That's what good doctors are there for--to listen and help you. TALK to your GYN and be completely HONEST about your body, your reliability with a daily pill, your sexual activities, and your bodily functions. If you're not being 100% honest you're doing yourself a HUGE disservice. Just so you know, I have a master's degree in women's healthcare and have studied this sector of medicine for years. Everything has it's pros and cons and that means everyone has to decide what they're willing to accept in those terms. But please ladies, don't make that decision on your own! Find a good doctor that cares about women and will listen to you and help you. No one gets through the maze of BC alone and no one should have to!

I've been on yaz for about four months and the only problems I have had are mood swings and spotting. I don't want to try another form of bc because i have heard so much negative about others and I don't want worse side effects than what I have now. I've heard that B-Vitamin supplements are a good idea to take, has anyone else heard about that?

I have been on Yaz for 4 days now - my moods are SO MUCH BETTER already. I hadn't been on BC for almost 4 years because I was busy being pregnant - I have a 2 1/2 year old and 6 month old. After my yougest was a few months old, I decided to go back on the pill I was on before, Alesse/Aviane. It worked for me back then - but when I started it a few months back, I was having my period EVERY OTHER WEEK and my moods were nutty, I would snap and be so irratable. I felt so guilty for it and couldn't explain it. So in my follow up appointment my OB suggested Yaz. SO, I know it has only been 4 days, but so far, so good. Oh, and my breasts are starting to get fuller again - they had turned into flapjacks after nursing my second child.
I hope this pill does the job and I don't get any side effects!

I have been on yaz for four months now. Before when i didnt take BC, i would have cramps for about a week before my period, and i would be irritable and moody, and irrational. Now that i have been on yaz for four months, i am going into my fourth period with NO pre-cramps, and the worst mood effect ive had is wanting to jump my husband when he comes walking through the door. Yaz may have very well saved my marriage, and my life. I am no longer angry at others for no apparent reason, I am happy and smiling. Which is who i've always been, and now i can finally be me again.
Thank you yaz.

I have had break through bleeding everyday for the first month I have been on Yaz. I am now into my second month and there is still break through bleeding each day.
Also I have little white and red lumps appearing on my chest and neck and at first thought it was acne but upon closer inspection they have no actual head like a pimple or acne does and no pus - Just a small lump or bump.

i just started yaz last month. i started on the first day of my period just like the literature suggested. my question is that i've gone through the whole pack and started a second, but no period. Is it normal for your period to not match the packet's cycle at first? also, during this time where they are not on the same schedule am i protected from pregnancy? there is no chance i'm pregnant so i'm just curious if it takes a while for your period to sync with the pills. thanks.

I started YAZ about 3 weeks ago. The first week I didn't notice anything....but last Tuesday I had what the doctor said was a panic attack! Since then the only symptoms I experience are dizziness and shortness of breath. I feel like I can't get a full breath. I had an EKG done and it showed things were ok. I am going to stop taking YAZ after reading a lot of the comments I have seen others make due to taking YAZ. Some YAZ may not bother while some it does...I don't know if it is my problem or not but we will soon see. If anyone else has a similar problem please let me know so I know I am not alone.

Wow to lisa, you lost hair on yaz? thats terrifying to me..thats the main reason i am taking it ! ive been off and on for 5 months or so, had bad leg cramps but my hair has been falling out insanely (i had chemo/radiation two years ago so..) but my hormones are messed up and im now cutting the yaz pill in half to try and get some eestrogen. anything to get my hair back..

i have been on yaz for 4 days and am always tired and cant get thru the day without sleeping also kinda moody but i will c how it goes for a few months
Posted by: lisa | March 10, 2009 10:47 PM
I was on YAZ for nearly a year before I stopped taking it. About 8 months into it I started to lose my hair, it started slowly at first before it got to the point of handfuls coming out in the shower and in my hairbrush. It took awhile before I realized it could be the YAZ because I had been on it for so long. I did some research online on young women and hair loss and found that there are some birth controls that will make your hair thin and YAZ was one of them. I stopped taking it that day and in about 2 weeks I noticed that less and less hair was falling out each day. I am now back on ortho tri-cycline lo and my hair is getting thicker again ! I just want to warn the women out there that have no terrible side effects on YAZ to be aware that it may take a while for things to occur and not to rule the YAZ out as a possible cause because you have been on it for so long. I also had the leg cramps that were probably the worse pain I have ever felt in my life, agian I didn't think it was the birth control, but I haven't had a leg cramp since I stopped taking YAZ .

Is YAZ monocyclin or tricyclin?

Hi! I also am 16 and my gyno wants me to start Yaz because of my PMDD. (severe cramps, mood swings, bloating, etc etc) I really want to take it, but I'm very concerned about how common nausea seems to be as a side effect. I already have frequent nausea from my PMDD, and I hate vomiting more than pretty much anything in the whole world. I was hoping that I could get some suggestions for how to prevent the nausea, or just any experiences/tips you could share with me. Thanks!

I am 16 years old, and I know that may seem too young for birth control, but I had out of control periods that were 14-19 days long. I went on Lybrel for four months at first, which is a brand new pill to stop your period all together. I ended up with a lot of spotting on it so I went on Yaz. Honestly, I've had one side effect from it, and it was only the first month of the pills. during my period I was uncontrollably crying (mind you, i never had pms symptoms before so this scared me). My doctor said to stay on it. Not only is it making my periods 2-3 days long, my acne has gone away almost completely. I'm never getting off this pill.

I have been on Yaz for three weeks and have had no side effects except being so tired! I too am having trouble making it through the day without a nap. I have been going to bed an hour and a half earlier than usual. When I get home from work I have no energy and my house is showing the effects! Is this normal and does it even out? I haven't been able to find too much about fatigue being a side effect.

I personally have had great experience with YAZ. It is a wonder pill for me. I don't get angry like I use to. My cravings have decreased. I no longer have periods with this pill, which is great.

I've been on Yaz a couple of weeks. I have had horrible experiences on every single birth control I have ever been on. Its sad but here's the list: Ortho-tricylin, Ortho-Tricyclin lo, Nuvaring, Femcon FE( HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PILL), The Depo Provera shot, and now I'm on Yaz. I've had side effects with every single method that I've been on. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced fatigue on Yaz. I normally have a pretty long day, but since I started these pills I can't make it the whole subway ride home during rushhour without falling asleep. I am sluggish all day and can't make it past dinner time without napping and then bedtime around midnight for 7 to 8 hours of sleep with no problem. I've never been so tired in my life. By mid afternoon I can barely keep my eyes open. Any one else have anything like this while on Yaz?

I am so very sorry for those of you who have had a bad experience with YAZ. I've only had one problem, and thats that my cramps aren't subsiding... but other than that, for the first time in my life I don't feel anxious everynight when I go to sleep. The YAZ pill gives a consistant dose of hormones everyday, so it doesn't start out strong and become weak, and the consistancy is what i believe is truly helping me in my life. I love to go out, and dont mind doing so many things I had a problem doing before. My days of lying around the house for two weeks are gone!!
Before I was taking yaz, I wasn't taking anything for close to three years, and for close to 3 weeks out of the month, i would discharge, and I always felt i had to have something down there to keep me from having an accident. When I least expected it, I would just leak and mess up some clothes, and being a college student, and being around all my girl friends, I could rarely change infront of them because I always leaked when I moved too much. Now with Yaz, for the past month, I've cleaned up per se, and feel so m uch better,. and so much more confident. I took action with things in my life, and being doing things I love again!!
Thank you YAZ! For all of you out there woth PMDD, look into yaz, but only if you truly feel your pms symptoms are very serious. This effect seems to hold true to doing the opposite effect on those whom have a normal level of hormones. Too many hormones cause problems!

Hello, I have read all the horror stories about YAZ. Personally, I love that pill. Before taking the pill I felt like I was going crazy. I would be soo upset all day if anyone looked at me wrong. I could tell the difference immediately. Anxiety went away (even anxiety pills couln't improve)Unfortunately, I was having trouble breathing after taking it so My doctor took me off as a precaution. She now wants to do a partial hysterectomy since I seem to be sensitive to BC pills. My husband already had a vasectomy and we want no more children. I am wondering If I would feel better, though. I guess I have a lot of research before making a decision. If any of you have any info, please post. Thanks

I've been getting PMDD symptoms for about 18 months, and have only just discovered the label of PMDD tonight. My partner told me about YAZ because he's at the end of his wits dealing with my severe mood fluctuations each month. After reading your posts, I feel confident that trying Yaz could possibly lead to some positive changes
Posted by: Monica | September 23, 2008 06:41 AM
I have been on Yaz for one month now. My PMDD was so severe that I almost could not have a normal life. I was not on any birth control at all by the way! Usually, the tenth day before my period I would start to get irritated at the smallest things. My breasts became so sensitive I was afraid for my husband to touch them. In fact, I didn't want to be touched at all. My body odor and breath would worsen, I felt like I gained 10 pounds overnight and my acne would flare up. Mentally, I would withdraw from people or events, cry for no reason, give up on new projects and had an overall bleak outlook on life. Did I mention I wanted to sleep 14 hours a day? I've tried anti-depressants, I eat right and excercise but I always felt awful for two weeks every month (Basically I felt like my life was cut in half). Since I've been on Yaz I've had very very minor headaches and a slightly decreased sex drive. But, the amazing thing is that I feel great for the first time in several years. I feel balanced, am loosing weight, my moods are more stable, I want to go out and do things, and I almost couldn't believe my period was coming because I haven't had any of the usual symptoms. This said, I think if you are hormonally normal you probably should not take Yaz. I imagine taking it would have the opposite effects I experienced. I will see how I feel in a few more months and update you. Thanks for this site!

I was on Yaz for 6 months of bliss. I had to stop taking it after that becasue my migraines got worse. The side effect I experienced can and has happened to me with other BCPs. Women are all different and we all have a right to our own opinion.
Yaz has changed many women's lives for the better. It's easy to go on the web and read the horror stories about ANY BCP. Most women only post about the BAD side effects and how it did not work.
In clinical trials, Yaz worked for 60 percent of women with PMDD. It did not work for 40 percent of the women with PMDD so it clearly is not for everyone.
It's possible that if you had stayed on Yaz all of the side effects you describe would have gone away. It is also possible that you have an underlying condition like depression making it very difficult for you to take Yaz or any other BCP. In every patient handbook there is a list of conditions that are contraindicated when taking BCPs.
I agree with Vida and I think the good the bad and the ugly needs to be talked about. Women need to know what all their options are without being biased against something like Yaz that may very well save their life. PMDD is a killer. Many women try and some succeed at taking their own life. This is not a game or funny IMHO.

Sorry you had so much trouble with Yaz. I do have to say, though, that it's not just for women who have low estrogen levels or who are in menopause. It's for women who have severe PMDD, and it has literally saved my life. My hormone levels are normal, never needed to be checked.
I was suicidal every month due to the PMDD. I was on meds for severe PPD after my daughter was born in 2002, and once the PMDD hit, none of those meds (antidepressants, antipsychotics, antianxiety) helped with the PMDD. It was only after I began taking Yaz that I felt relief, and I was able to stop taking the other meds. The only two minor side effects I had were nausea and headaches, both of which went away within the first couple of months of beginning the Yaz.
Keep in mind that not everyone reacts to a birth control pill in the same way. Many are on Yaz and are doing very well on it. If you intend to put a scare into women who need this for PMDD, then you are doing a huge disservice to them. Yaz can save their life.
ALL birth control pills come with the side effects that you list. It's unfortunate that you experienced what you did, and for that, I'm very sorry. But, again, you must remember that there are women out there who will benefit from Yaz.
